2008-2009 Workshops Series
Kid-Tested, kid-developed materials designed to foster musicianship, nurture creativity and make you smile. The focus of the workshop is on early childhood/lower elementary, upper elementary as well as a special focus on Orff-centered lessons and integrating recorder instruction. Bring soprano recorders! Come and play!
October 25, 2008 Participants will experience process in presenting movement, singing and developing instrumentation for selected folk songs and singing games.

National AOSA Conference in
February 28, 2009 This session will provide a collection of play-parties and singing games that build literacy. Additional children's literature titles will be included to incorporate into the music classroom.
March 14, 2009 Members who attended the November National Conference in Charlotte, NC will share some of their favorite activities and ideas from conference sessions.
April 25, 2009 This workshop will focus on ways to establish a positive learning atmosphere that will enable and encourage students to work to their potential in playing, creating and extending musical compositions. We will work with hand drums, boomwhackers, pitched and unpitched percussion. Special attention will be directed toward the process with many suggestions for classroom management.
Clinicians Karen Medley is an elementary music specialist in the Pentucket Regional School District in northeastern Massachusetts. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester). She also studied at the University of Memphis where she earned a Master of Music with a Concentration in Orff Studies and completed her Orff Teacher Training Levels I – III and Master Class. A presenter at eleven AOSA National Conferences, Karen has taught many workshops, in-services and teacher-training courses across the United States. Currently, Karen teaches in summer teacher-training programs through the University of Alaska (Anchorage) and the Eastman School of Music. Karen served on the AOSA National Board of Trustees as Regional Representative and also as National Conference Chairperson. Penny Mahoney BS, MA, Ed.D., Orff Schulwerk Level I - III, and Endorsed Trainer in Education Through Movement, is currently a music specialist, K-5 at the Wolf Swamp Road School, Longmeadow, Massachusetts and a visiting lecturer at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. She acquired her Orff Schulwerk certifications from Grace Nash and is an Endorsed Trainer in Phyllis Weikart's Education through Movement. Penny is an active clinician throughout the United States as an Orff Specialist and Endorsed Trainer in Phyllis Weikart's Education through Movement. She has also served as President of the Central Texas Orff Chapter and Regional Representative to the Board of Trustees of AOSA. Thom Borden, a former Chicago music teacher, completed his Orff Master Level under Jos Wuytack and has studied music and movement in Europe. Continued studies include Kodály training at Colorado State University. As a clinician and Music Consultant for Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and past-member of the National Association of Storytellers, Thom’s sessions incorporate a performance perspective. Chris Judah-Lauder teaches fifth through eighth grade music at Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Dallas, TX where she received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2001. She has served on the National Board for AOSA as a Regional Representative and Local Conference Co-chair. She is recently serving as the National Conference Co-Chair for the 2009 Conference in Milwaukee. She is a composer and an active nationally known clinician. She teaches Orff teacher training courses, in-service staff developments and presents workshops for “children’s music in church” throughout the United States. Chris has presented at seven National Orff Conferences and many TMEA and MENC conferences. Chris also directs three middle school music ensemble groups that have been featured at international and national conferences including the opening session at the 1995 National Conference. Her publications include Canya Conga, Fun with Boomwhackers®, Hand Drums on the Move, Boom Boom Classic , Keeping It Simple, Sounds n’ Beats, Hands on Recorder Bk 2, the video Hand Drums and More, and she is a contributing author for Spotlight on Music.
